In order to work with BeeMail, your e-mail client application must connect to the BeeMail Proxy when it sends your outgoing e-mails. Look at the proxy status window to see which local address and port the BeeMail Proxy is listening on.

This address is what your e-mail client should use as its outgoing mail server (SMTP). Normally, the address is 127.0.0.1 Port 2525 on OS X and Port 25 on OS 9 and prior. Find the SMTP server settings in your e-mail client, and point it to this address.
If there is a user ID and password set up for your SMTP server, leave this information in place. The BeeMail proxy will gather any login information from your e-mail client, and pass it along to the SMTP server when needed. Be sure to clear any security or SSL options.
Below you can find step-by-step instructions on how to set up some popular e-mail programs. Important: Before making any changes, make a note of your current settings in your e-mail program, as you may need to restore them if you uninstall BeeMail Proxy.
Mail.app
From the "Mail" menu, select "Preferences...". In the Preferences window, click on "Accounts". For each of your e-mail accounts in the "Accounts" list, click the "Server Settings..." button below the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" information. The "SMTP Server Options" window will open.

Put the local proxy address into the "Outgoing Mail Server" field. Put the proxy port into the "Server Port" field. Make sure that "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" is not checked. Leave any authentication, user name and password settings in place. Click "OK" when finished.
Eudora
From the "Eudora" menu on OS X, or "Edit" menu on OS 9 and prior, select "Preferences...". The "Settings" window will open. Make sure that "Getting Started" is selected.

Put the local proxy address into the "SMTP Server" field. If the local port is something other than 25, it should be appended to the address, separated by a colon. In the example above, Address 127.0.0.1 and Port 2525 becomes "127.0.0.1:2525". Select "SSL" from the column to the left. Make sure that "SSL for SMTP" is set to "None". Click "OK" when finished.
Outlook Express
From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts". The "Accounts" window will open. Double-click on each of your mail accounts. The "Edit Account" window will open.

Put the local proxy address into the "SMTP Server" field. Then, click where it says "Click here for advanced sending options". A window with more options will open.

Make sure that "SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)" is not checked. If the local proxy port is something other than 25, specify it in the "Override default SMTP port" field. Leave any authentication, account ID and password settings in place. Close the window when finished, then click OK.
