The status window is a floating window which will go away when other applications are in the foreground. That way, it does not take up any space on your screen as you are using your computer. To get it back, bring the BeeMail proxy back to the foreground, by clicking on its icon in the dock in OS X, or by selecting it from the application menu in OS 9 and prior.
