E-mail Client Configuration

In order to work with BeeMail, your e-mail client application must connect to the BeeMail Proxy when it sends your outgoing e-mails. Look at the proxy status window to see which local address and port the BeeMail Proxy is listening on.

This address is what your e-mail client should use as its outgoing mail server (SMTP). Normally, the address is 127.0.0.1, Port 25. Find the SMTP server settings in your e-mail client, and point it to this address.

If there is a user ID and password set up for your SMTP server, leave this information in place. The BeeMail proxy will gather any login information from your e-mail client, and pass it along to the SMTP server when needed. Be sure to clear any security or SSL options.

Below you can find step-by-step instructions on how to set up some popular e-mail programs. Important: Before making any changes, make a note of your current settings in your e-mail program, as you may need to restore them if you uninstall BeeMail Proxy.

Outlook and Outlook Express

From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts". The "Internet Accounts" window will open. Select the "Mail" tab, and double-click on each of your mail accounts. The "Account Properties" window will open. In this window, select the "Servers" tab.

Put the local proxy address into the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field. Then, click on the "Advanced" tab.

If the local proxy port is something other than 25, specify it in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field under "Server Port Numbers". Make sure that "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is not checked for the outgoing mail server. Click "OK" when finished.
