In order to interoperate witth a wide variety of 3rd party applications in a Beehive file transfer workflow environment, Beehive complies with industry standards for integration. In the printing, prepress, newspaper and other publishing environments, this standard is JDF. JDF defines a simple model whereby controllers can call node applications with simple http calls and pass the resource locations for them to complete a task and then receive a reply code upon completion in similar fashion. The messages and reports passed between nodes are encoded in XML with a very rich set of predefined fields and data types.
Beehive forms support becomes the coordinating set of instructions for processing workflow jobs (the job ticket) . The Beehive job ticket follows the job throughout the system and distributes instructions and collects information about the job, For instance a job ticket might instruct the system to preflight the job and then it would collect the preflight report and carry it forward with the job.
Beehive software has used its JDF support to provide several complex workflows using 3rd party applications. Examples of these applications include: Proofing Systems, Front-end Preflighting systems, Back-end PDF Certification Systems and 3rd party Content Management.
