Internet Services - Just Make Two Decisions!
Beehive Software has worked with a number of ISPs to develop a simple system for providing ISP services to Printing, Prepress and Newspaper companies. This system requires you to make just two (2) decisions:
Decision Number 1 -What kind of connection (data transfer speed) to the Internet do I need?

Choice One: DSL is usually the best choice for medium volume sites (transmitting up to 5GB per month). DSL is a low cost, routed service with bandwidth from 384kbps to 1.5Mbps. Even at the low-end, DSL runs 10 times faster than a modem, and under the best conditions, it may run as fast as a T1 line. Because DSL service uses a router, you may have multiple users on your local area network and may even host your own server (although it is usually advisable to use a hosted ftp service with DSL). DSL is not available in all regions.

** DSL speeds are dependant upon distance from switch.
*** DSL orders typically require a one time router purchase; installation is usually free with a one year contract.
The speed available in your facility is dependent on how far you are from the central office switch. Pricing for DSL changes regularly, but we have provided sample pricing in the adjacent chart.
Customers can usually expect a 384kbps service to be less than $150/mo and a full 1.5Mbps DSL service to be less than $350/mo.
Choice Two: High-Speed, Dedicated T1 Access is the choice when you or your customers need a full-time, high-performance connection to the Internet. If you need even faster performance, multiple T1s and T3s are available.

Get a Quote: The prices for DSL access is easily estimated from the chart shown above, but prices for T1 are variable depending on the local loop charge (the charge that the local Telco charges to get the line to your site) and the equipment and support options that you choose.

Decision Number 2 - Where do I want the web/ftp server to reside?

Choice One: Have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) host your web/ftp server for you. One of the best ways to guarantee customer satisfaction is to optimize the speed at which the files are moved from the customer’s desktop. If your bandwidth to the Internet is less than T1 speeds, then you should probably use shared hosting at an ISP. If you do not want the overhead of maintaining your own web/ftp server, you can take advantage of Beehive web/ftp hosting (available 24x7).

This service allocates space for you on our ISP’s high performance Linux/Apache servers where your web files and file transfer files are stored. Beehive’s ftp manager software periodically polls the hosted server (e.g., every 15 minutes) and picks up any received files. You also receive a number of email accounts with this service (see the chart bolow for web/ftp hosting service features and prices).

ChoiceTwo: Run your own server on your site. If you have a T1 (or better) connection to the Internet, you may want to choose to have the web/ftp server reside directly on your site. The Beehive Internet Appliance is the perfect system for this task. This one appliance can support all of your web/ftp/email and file sharing requirements. This configuration is optimal when the most important concern is “How fast does the job get imaged?”
